Many, many, many, many changes......

A friend sent a version of this, to me.  It's from 1949 of course.
.
In 1949, I was 12 years old.  Forming feminine values of course.
.
.
If anyone is old enough, to remember "The Donna Reed Show," you have seen them, in practice.  This tv show began, in 1958, the year I got married.  :-)
.
So you can imagine how many changes I have lived through!!!!!  Pretty amazing, actually.  "I've come a long way, baby!"  (Which was in an add, promoting women smoking, back in the day.  Yishhhh)

This is my first visit to your pretty blog and already I feel at home. I like so many things, from your header to your writing and of course your Zinger, no home would be complete without it :-) I'll be sure to come back.

I have an old Singer and remember seeing that in the manual...OMG! Back in my day we had homed and that's been long gone but certainly taught me some skills I still use to this day. Thanks for stopping by and leaving you sweet comment about our rescued dog Ginger.

that is just so utterly charming! every word!
i love things written from that time period.
i was a very jealous little person that year...
running around telling anyone who would listen
"i'm here. and i'm three years old."
seriously. how pathetic is that.
the marine was just brought home in a blanket. a brand new baby boy.
my throne was never the same! LOLOL!!!
and weren't those singer machines a literal work of ART!
this was a great post.
thanks!

How is your sewing coming? Have you made any new skirts yet? I love fabrics and go crazy in a place like Hobby Lobby or Joann's where all those gorgeous fabrics are on the rolls. But i truly don't like to sew. I will because I have to. I made my living room,Mitchell and bathroom curtains only because I couldn't find what I wanted out there. I can't wait for you to model your creations.

Thank you for leaving such a kind comment on my blog. I loved seeing your post about the old Singer sewing machine, I learnt how to sew on one like that, which was converted into a treadle machine, ( do you remember them ) then later my oldest sister bought an electric machine. I made all my clothes then. I've just seen you have a post on how to centre my blog header, I'll be having a look at that. I need to change my header after having a Christmas theme. I'll be signing up to follow you.

That ad is too funny. You got married in l958? Yes, I've heard of the Donna Reed Show! I watch Gilmore Girl reruns, and one of their episodes was focused on the Donna Reed Show. :)

Have a nice week, Tessa.

Have things changed much really? Although we aren't presumptuous enough to give out advice like that, do we not seek to have a lovely and clean home, and make ourselves presentable on a daily basis? And don't we constantly say we feel better about life in general when we do?

The only big change I see from my childhood to now is that my husband helps out loads more around the house than the men I grew up around.

I'm not sure how to feel about that advice, I think it warrants a long discussion with good friends.

Have a great week!

I grew up with a variety of old Singers - I learned to sew on them. Love 'em. And you're right, so many changes, and so many rapid, seismic changes. x

I wasn't born yet when you watched Donna Reed's Show on tv, but I'm sure it was trying to educate to feminine values, at theat age it was quite normal ... you're right, since then so many things have changed, also sewing machines, ... those from 1949 were simply adorable, I'm in love with them !
Thank you for another enthralling post, darling Tessa
sending much love to you
